🚢 A Day in the Life of a Small Vessel Officer:

Are you a strong leader that can work well under pressure?  The Small Vessel Officer position requires strong leadership skills and ability to work under pressure with minimum guidance while supporting our Small Vessel Commanding Officers and crew in a Supervisor capacity.  The key activities are:

  • Monitoring and maintaining Small Fleet assets.
  • Communicating with our Canadian Coast Guard Regional Operations Center to coordinate movements of assets and vessels.
  • Supporting our Small Vessel Fleet Commanding Officers with financial guidance, equipment, and administrative documents.
  • Traveling throughout the Atlantic provinces to carry out site visits and inspections at our remote vessel stations locations.
  • Collaborating and establishing positive relationships with our Canadian Coast Guard Vessel Maintenance Managers for successful vessel refits.

Successful completion of secondary school (high school) according to provincial or territorial standards or general equivalency (GED)

Valid Transport Canada Marine Certificate of Competency

 

📌 Experience

■ Experience in providing recommendations to Management on operational matters

■ Experience in human resource management in any of the following areas: experience in staffing processes, employee performance evaluations, leave planning or approval for a work unit, planning and establishing work objectives, work scheduling or work assignments

■ Experience in the support of financial resources

Asset Qualifications 

📌 Experience

■  Experience interpreting and applying policies, directives, acts, regulations, or collective agreements

■  Experience in maritime operations or the delivery of DFO/CCG programs

 Experience using financial software such as SAP, Maximo and/or Maintelligence 

■  Experience working onboard a Canadian Coast Guard ship 

■  Experience in a shore position relating to marine management or marine training

■  Experience in managing assets such as vehicles and/or small craft

 

Operational Requirements

■  Report to an office environment 

■  May be required to work in adverse conditions such as those found in the marine environment

■  Work overtime on short notice

■  Work on a variety of Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) assets including, small boats or large vessels, or helicopter

 

Conditions of Employment

Maintain valid Secret Security Clearance

■ Maintain a valid driver's license

Requirement to wear and maintain a uniform as per CCG standards, inclusive of CSA approved safety footwear, and maintain job related personal protective equipment
